Mother Nature’s wind storm this afternoon had Oliver firefighters coming and going.

The department was initially called to the 4600 block of Ryegrass Road for a brush fire. A few minutes later, a firefighter on scene called for an ambulance.

Media spokesperson Rob Graham said he could not comment on the injury or the reason paramedics were called. But he noted the fire was knocked down and contained to some cedar hedges.

“It is unknown at this time what caused them to catch fire.”

After that call came in, Kelowna dispatch notified the department about  power lines down near the Okanagan Correctional Centre on Tucelnuit Drive. Information was then relayed about lines down at 7736 Tucelnuit Drive.

The fire department then confirmed it was telephone lines down, not power lines. A few minutes after that, a fire truck was stationed on Highway 97 near Island Road where a tree had fallen on some lines.

As of 3:30 p.m. most if not all trucks were back at the hall.
