The Vaseux Lake Bird Observatory is a busy place in the fall with volunteers doing research on migrating song birds. Bander in charge Matthias Bieber and assistant bander Jason Bieber diligently check the 14 nets daily for bird activity. Once they find a bird, they carefully put it in a sack and take it back to their research station where it is banded and released. An open house for the public is scheduled for Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. This will be a great opportunity for people to see the operation up close and personal.
