The Town of Oliver is participating in a grant application for Indigenous cultural safety and humility training.

The funding is being offered by the UBCM (Union of BC Municipalities) to support emergency personnel with training to better assist Indigenous communities during times of crisis.

The program educates personnel on the history of Indigenous people as well as cultural safety concepts and humility.

Learning outcomes include identifying key historical events marking the history of Crown-Indigenous relations, recognizing inter-generational trauma and resiliency, and structural barriers to reconciliation.
