Town hires Dumoret as airport manager

The Town of Oliver has commissioned local pilot Paul Dumoret to prepare an operations manual for the airport and act as airport manager.

The contract price is $1,300 a month, which works out to $15,600 a year. Dumoret will work four hours a week as the manager.

The operations manual is part of a “strategic plan” to enhance airport operations and increase its usability.

Dumoret from 3 Bar Consulting Group said they will conduct a meeting with Town council and the Airport Advisory Committee to determine what needs to be addressed. He will also meet with tenants and commercial operators to hear their input “so that all concerns can be brought forth.”

Dumoret was instrumental in the initial preparation of an operations manual in 1994 when it was required by Transport Canada (as Oliver was a certified airport at that time). He noted the new manual will be a much less stringent document.

“I am happy to participate in its preparation as I am familiar with the airport and have as my partners, very experienced professional people who work solely on airport projects throughout BC and Canada.”

The airport manager position was another recommendation from the Airport Strategic Plan due to increased activity in lease tenants, businesses and aviation traffic.

“I feel very confident with my 41 years in aviation and my years of devotion to the improvements at the Oliver municipal airport. I can add some value in the years to come, and help make the airport more self sufficient.”

The following is a partial list of duties that Dumoret sees as a requirement to manage and promote the airport: Maintain runway and taxiway condition; ensure airport lighting integrity; maintain fence/gates integrity; improve revenue generating capacity; promote airport through advertising; and seek new hangar tenants.
