The 10th annual Oliver Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament was held on September 8-9 at the Oliver Tennis Courts.
The weatherman smiled as 18 teams competed for prizes in each of three divisions.
The Oliver Tennis Club was represented by half of the teams, with visiting teams from the Okanagan Valley, Omak and one team from Minnesota.
Winners included Brandt Leinor and Mary Wu (A Division), Al and Brenda Drescher (B Division) and Frank and Gail McAuliffe (C Division). The McAuliffes also won the new trophy for the most games won, regardless of division.
A “lightly used” tennis clothing sale was managed by Deb Edwards and the proceeds will soon be donated to an Oliver charity. The local community helped with staging the tournament and thanks go to the Air Cadets, Parks & Recreation staff and to the many local businesses in Oliver and Osoyoos who donated prizes and supplied food.
The Oliver club is known as “the home of social tennis in the South Okanagan” and the tournament would not have been complete without the Saturday tournament dinner hosted at the home of Dave and Janet Shaw.
In the words of tournament director Nieves Windley, “everything was perfect.”
