The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has expanded the mandatory evacuation order in the Sportsmen’s Bowl Road area by one property.
A total of 13 properties with 16 addresses are now under the evacuation order due to flooding from Park Rill Creek in the Sportsmen’s Bowl Road area.
Although the added property was outside the previous evacuation order area, all residents and animals on the property have been safely evacuated for several days with the assistance of Emergency Social Services.
The RDOS says the extension of the order area will allow for them to continue emergency works to reinforce Park Rill Creek on the property.
Non-residents of the Sportsmen’s Bowl Road area are asked to stay away from the area for their safety and the safety of workers in the area, as well as from all creeks and rivers in the southern interior.
Flash flooding, failure of slopes and debris flows can occur, making even small creeks dangerous, the RDOS says. Areas where forest fires have occurred will be especially unstable due to the loss of vegetation destabilizing banks.
