Sabyan Automotive has been quite the Santa Claus of Christmas past.

The company used to buy gifts for all of its staff members and spouses at its Christmas party every year. But the last three years it put that money towards the community by donating to different clubs or charitable groups.

Everyone at the Christmas party put their donation ideas in a Santa hat, and two suggestions are drawn.

As a result, Sabyan has sent cheques to the Oliver food bank, the SPCA, and for the past two years the funds have also gone towards the SOSS Enrichment Fund for a student in the automotive trade.

This year the 1st Oliver Scouts was chosen as the donation recipient (Louisa Paetkau accepted $250).

The second in-store draw coincided with the Oliver Christmas shoppers draw (enter to win a pair of Elan Freestyle skis by Toyo Tires).

The winner was Jim Northeast of Oliver, who has some happy grandchildren who will be having fun with those skis.
