Oliver RCMP are looking into an unconfirmed report of “shots fired” in the area of Murphy’s Pub and the MLA’s office on the weekend.

Cpl. Scott VanEvery said they received the report on Sunday that someone had fired off a few rounds of ammunition on Saturday night.

VanEvery said the investigation is “behind the eight ball” considering the delay in the report (10 hours later).

The acting sergeant of the Oliver detachment said there are no witnesses, but police hope to view any video in the area to help with the investigation.

The officer said a total of four bullet casings were found in the area. Three were turned in to police by employees of a local business. VanEvery said it appears the casings are from a 9 mm handgun.

“There’s nothing to suggest that he or she was trying to kill anyone; they were just firing off rounds in the lot.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-498-3422.
