Penticton RCMP is assisting Oliver police with a serious crime involving a man who was shot in the face on May 28.

According to police, the incident goes back to May 18 when Oliver RCMP attended a residence on Harmony Crescent for a report of a home invasion.

Sergeant Blaine Gervais said a male carrying a handgun and wearing a mask was witnessed leaving the residence.

“Oliver RCMP members arrived and questioned the people inside who were uncooperative.”

On May 28 in Oliver, a male who was present during the home invasion was dropped off at South Okanagan General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his face, Gervais reported. The male was transported to Kelowna General Hospital and has since been released.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

Due to the seriousness of the offence and the history of the victim and his associates, the Penticton Serious Crime Unit is assisting the Oliver RCMP with the investigation.

“Police do not believe this incident to be random, and the public is safe,” Gervais said.

If anyone has information regarding these investigations, he or she is asked to contact the nearest police agency or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
