Females want new room
The Oliver Parks and Recreation Society is investigating a request to build a new dressing room in the arena for female hockey players.
At a recent board meeting, members listened to a delegation (Amy Harris) from the South Okanagan Minor Hockey Association. Harris asked the board to look at providing a proper change room for 16 female players in the association. The room they use now is very small and has no sink, toilet or showering facilities, said recreation manager Bob Grant.
He noted that building a new change room would cost approximately $100,000.
And the survey said?
A verbal report was given on a survey asking Oliver residents if they would support a year-round pool facility.
Last year the board discussed the idea of enclosing the pool and making it available year-round. The board surveyed residents and approximately 50 people responded. Grant said 35 respondents said yes, and 15 said no.
The survey also asked residents if they would support a tax increase and how much.
Board elects executive
The society elected Shiela Lange as chair, Larry Clarke as vice-chair and Terry Baptiste as secretary.
The following members sit on various committees: Personnel Committee (Lange, Dave Mattes, Tamela Edwards and Dennis Magoffin); Operations Committee (Magoffin, Tom Fortune, and Clarke); Reserve Committee (Bill Eggert, Mattes, and Edwards); Policy Committee (Baptiste, Mattes and Eggert).
