A man has been charged after starting a fire in a dumpster behind Oliver Place Mall early Tuesday morning.
Around 6:00 a.m., Oliver firefighters responded to a call to a fire behind the Mall. A male, identified as Steve Godbout, 50, was observed adding pallets to the fire.
Godbout was located and arrested the same day behind the Mall later in the afternoon. Several charges were forwarded and approved by Crown Counsel for appearance in court today.
Godbout was released from jail the previous week on Jan 28 and placed on probation while residing in Oliver.
In 2016, he was charged with two years in prison for break and enter and possession of stolen property under $5,000, after being caught leaving an equipment building next to a Telus cell tower on Oliver Mountain, which had been knocked down. He was suspected, but not charged, with downing the tower.
Godbout was also convicted with starting a bush on fire near the A&W in Oliver in October of 2015.
