This letter to the editor is in response to Celia Newman’s letter last week.
Should we be denigrating a member of our local citizenry and a business owner? Just because they voiced their opinion? It is the editor to determine what should and should not be published. An editorial is opinion; in this case I believe driven by the proclamations of the citizens of this community.
Censorship is a strange bedfellow:
Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.
― Harry S. Truman
Withholding information is the essence of tyranny. Control of the flow of information is the tool of the dictatorship.
― Bruce Coville
We of this community prefer not to be preached to.
