As the Town of Oliver prepares for a by-election this fall, Councillor Linda Larson is set to resign July 15.
On Monday council appointed Cathy Cowan as chief election officer and Linda Schultz as deputy chief election officer.
The by-election has been set for September 21.
Larson said her new position as MLA requires all of her time and energy, leaving no time to devote to council matters. She expressed her hope that her timing will allow the newly elected councillor to participate fully in this fall’s budget debate.
“It is a privilege to have served on this council with a group of people who love their community and always look ahead for ways to make Oliver a better place to live for all.”
Larson said she will continue her local volunteering efforts and participate in as many events as she can.
Larson will be meeting with council as an MLA prior to the Union of BC Municipalities convention to ensure she is fully aware of all local concerns that the Town will be presenting to provincial ministers this fall.
