Five people required rescuing on the Okanagan River Friday evening.

RCMP, the Oliver Fire Department and Oliver Osoyoos Search and Rescue respond to a call of a missing person in the river north of town near Island Road.

The person was located, but during the same time four other people ended up trapped on an island in the river with out a safe way to make it back, said fire department spokesman Rob Graham.

Crews on scene for close to two hours and were able to successfully help everyone back across the river.

Graham said there were no injuries, other than “lots of mosquito bites.”

“A big thank you to the RCMP and OOSAR for their support in the rescue operation.”
