Oliver firefighters are investigating a suspicious car fire this morning.
Crews were called out again after 9 am to attend a vehicle fire that initially occurred at approximately 5 am on McKinney Road just past the bridge east of the Osoyoos Indian Band office.
The car was fully engulfed earlier this morning, but firefighters were called to the scene again to deal with a bit of smoke that could be seen coming from the trunk area.
The car belonged to Oliver resident Caley Howard, who left the car on Christmas Eve after having a flat tire and not being able to find anywhere open to fix it.
“I’m devastated,” Howard said on Facebook. “Every where was closed because (of the) holiday so I couldn’t fix it and someone comes along and burned it.”
Not only was Howard’s car destroyed, but also all of her work gear which was left in the car, including horseback riding saddles.
Oliver Cpl. Christina Tarasoff said that RCMP does not know who started the fire.
“Unknown suspects lit the vehicle on fire for no apparent reason,” she said. “The matter is still under investigation.”
