UPDATE: BC Wildfire has taken over battling the fire and cleared the Oliver Fire Department, says fire department spokesman Rob Graham.

Oliver firefighters, forestry crews and air tankers have been battling a grass fire off McKinney Road since 4:30 p.m.

The fire, which has grown to more than five hectares, is east of the road, in the 1300 block.

BC Wildfire service said they have deployed 10 firefighters to assist the Oliver Fire Department.

In a post to Facebook, the Oliver Fire Department said the fire is contained and crews are “working on knocking down hotspots.”
