A driver who left the scene of an accident this morning has been issued a $320 violation ticket.
The incident occurred on Ryegrass Road where a motorist struck a utility pole, shearing it right off and leaving the top half of the pole hanging by the wires.
Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham said there were no injuries to report, adding the driver fled the scene.
The vehicle was left in a nearby orchard.
Graham said one-third of the pole still remained attached to the wires.
“Power was knocked out and some lines did come down,” he noted.
FortisBC was quick to the scene and deactivated the power so that emergency crews could safely check the area.
Sergeant Blaine Gervais from the Oliver RCMP said the driver was subsequently identified and issued violation tickets, including one for leaving the scene.
