Crown drops shooting charge

The Crown has dropped the charge of attempted murder against Afshin M. Ighani after the shooting victim died recently due to an unrelated cause.

Crown council has dropped an attempted murder charge against a male who allegedly shot an Oliver man this spring.

On Monday, prosecutor John Swanson made the decision to withdraw the charge against Afshin M. Ighani in the wake of the recent death of the shooting victim, Thomas Szajko, who reportedly died this month due to an unrelated cause.

Swanson was planning to rely on the testimony of Szajko in the shooting that occurred in April.

Ighani also faces charges for alleged kidnapping and carjacking (in Princeton), in addition to allegedly assaulting two inmates at the Okanagan Correctional Centre.
