Crews are preparing to implement plans to control the drainage in the Sportsmen’s Bowl area.

Over 300 meters of rock gabion wire baskets will be installed at the lower end of Sportsmen’s Bowl Road to maintain and direct the water flow through culverts underneath Hwy 97 and into the oxbows on the south side of the highway.

There will be stations at the oxbows to pump the water directly into the channel.

In addition to efforts to mitigate flooding, crews are also deploying tiger dams and sandbags to targeted properties on Jones Road in Willowbrook, Hwy 97 and the upper portion of Sportsmen’s Bowl Road.

Residents are asked not to walk or stand on tiger dams or sandbags, to stay out of the flowing water as the ground below may be unstable, and away from emergency crews and hazard areas to allow crews to work safely.

Residents currently on evacuation order will remain so until further notice, and those areas on evacuation alert should continue to be ready to evacuate should conditions deteriorate.

Residents or property owners requiring further assistance can call the Emergency Operations Centre at 250-490-4225.
