Chronicle a finalist in BC newspaper awards competition

Ma Murray awardsWEBThe Oliver Chronicle has been nominated for two awards in the 2016 BCYCNA Ma Murray community newspaper competition.

The awards recognize newspaper excellence, writing, photography and advertising.

The Chronicle is listed as a finalist in the Newspaper Excellence Awards, going up against the Revelstoke Review and the Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle. This award recognizes general excellence in reporting, photography, layout and advertising.

The Oliver Chronicle is also up for a photography award in the Spot News category. The judges nominated Lyonel Doherty’s photo of a daring rescue that occurred on Tucelnuit Lake on December 17, when a 16-year-old boy fell through the ice.

The Osoyoos Times, which won two first place awards in 2014, is also a finalist this year in the Feature Article category for its coverage on last summer’s wildfires.

Winners will be announced at River Rock Casino in Richmond on May 7.
