Bylaw notified of illegal campsite in Oliver

Bylaw enforcement was notified of an illegal campsite that was set up behind the Oliver Visitor Centre today.

A concerned resident reported a messy situation directly behind the Oliver Visitor Centre, where it appeared someone set up an illegal campsite there today.

The complainant was appalled by the situation and wondered if the Town was doing anything about it.

The Chronicle contacted the Town and was told that bylaw enforcement was notified of the situation.

In a recent housing needs report reviewed by Town council, it was estimated that 32 to 40 people in Oliver are homeless or living in trailers or vehicles.

  1. Living in a trailer is not so bad but on the street or in a car is not acceptable. Surely we can find a way to house these people. Maybe start by with holding the RDOS wages increase this year and apply it to temporary housing.
