Burn pile escapes resident

Oliver firefighters have just finished mopping up a burn pile that escaped a residence at 7484 Island Road this afternoon.

Once on scene, responders noticed that a pile of scrap wood was burning quite aggressively.

The burn had the potential of spreading to an adjacent house but firefighters made sure that didn’t happen. No structures were impacted and no injuries were reported.

Fire Chief Bob Graham said if people are going to burn they should make sure the fire doesn’t get away from them, and if it does, be prepared to put it out.

Once again, the fire department is cautioning people about the hazards of outdoor burning and how fast it can get away from you.
