Be wary who you help these days.

That’s what one orchard owner found out this week when someone stole his vehicle south of Oliver.

It was an “opportunistic theft,” said RCMP Sgt. Blaine Gervais.

He reported that a man from Alberta approached the property owner on Wednesday and asked for help with his bike.

When the property owner was distracted, the other man hopped into the vehicle and took off.

Police later observed the vehicle in Oliver and tried to stop it, but the driver sped off and subsequently jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to hide. He was soon located near the Chevron gas station.

The accused faces several charges.
