Where’s the beef? Right here, man

This week we give you our top six beefs about things that have gone terribly wrong in society.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford

He should be dragged from office, kicking and screaming if need be. How can this man lead a city (let alone hold his head high) after doing things that you’d normally see in a Martin Scorsese film? He should audition for Goodfellas 2.

The Senate scandal

To think that Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin were former television journalists who hounded politicians for their questionable actions. Did they really think they were untouchable in the Senate chamber? If there ever was a time to abolish this elite group that loves to spend our money, it’s now.

Global warming

As long as big corporations and governments are fueled by greed (which will continue into oblivion), the world will be hit with major natural disasters.

Governments and citizens are not taking the reduction of greenhouse gases seriously and we are suffering immensely for it.

The ‘injustice’ system

Delay, delay, delay. That’s the name of the game. The longer the case drags on, the more that witnesses forget and the more money lawyers make. It’s a lucrative game to be in, but a nightmare for the victims and their families. No wonder there’s a court backlog when cases are delayed for months. The Young Offenders Act also needs a major overhaul, starting with naming the kids that steal your cars and vandalize your property.

Animal cruelty

Why is it so hard to prosecute people who mistreat their animals or use them as punching bags? If you assault another person, you will likely be charged on the spot. But if you kick a dog to death or leave it to die in a hot car, there’s a lot of judicial humming and hawing whether there’s enough evidence to proceed. Canada’s animal cruelty laws are shameful, just shameful.

Role models from hell

Some young entertainers whom our children look up to need to be muzzled and banned from the stage. Shocking antics of lewd and sexual behaviour have no place on television and are poisoning the minds of our kids. Boot these idiots off the stage and get someone who can rely on their God-given talents to entertain and inspire our future generation.
