The Oliver Ambassador Program challenges youth to step away from the every day pressures put on by society and step towards the path of self discovery. This year the program focused on key issues surrounding happiness, inner beauty and critical thinking. Candidates also learned skills including public speaking, professional resume building, car maintenance and nutrition.
This year’s Oliver Ambassador pageant events take place this weekend at the Frank Venables Theatre. Personal presentations are on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and the awards and Coronation Ceremony is on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Admission for the personal presentations is $10. For the awards and Coronation Ceremony, tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students or $45 for families. Tickets are available from participants or at the door.
Bridget Miller – Sponsored by Interior Ready Mix
Bridget is 15 years old. She enjoys playing a variety of sports, especially volleyball. Her goal in life is to have a successful adulthood and be able to complete the university education that she needs to become a teacher.
Avnit Sidhu – Sponsored by Kalala Organic Estate Winery
Avnit is 15 years old and is going into the 10th grade this coming fall at Southern Okanagan Secondary School. She has been living in Oliver since 2011 with her two loving parents and two loveable little sisters. In her free time, she likes to play the guitar, read books and watch movies. Avnit prefers to cut, style and occasionally dye her own hair. After high school she hopes to be attending college full-time working towards a business degree while working part-time as a hair stylist. In 10 years, Avnit hopes to be married, with two kids and running an international brand. By 2028, she hopes to be on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list!
Jassimran Sidhu – Sponsored by Oliver Rotary Club
Jassimran is 15 years old, and just finished 9th Grade at SOSS. As time goes on, she hopes to become a family physician and help those in need. She loves to go shopping and also enjoys playing many different sports such as soccer, basketball and field hockey. She lives on the outskirts of town with her family consisting of my parents, grandparents and younger brother. When this program comes to an end, she hopes to have achieved her goals of being able to speak confidently in front of large crowds and make connections with the people in and beyond her community.
Jasmeen Gill – Sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97
Jasmeen is 14 years old. She is currently going into the 10th Grade at SOSS. In her spare time, she enjoys playing field hockey, listening to music and hanging out with her friends. She lives on a vineyard with her mom, dad and twin sister. As time goes by, she hopes to become a lawyer because it has always interested her since she will small. With this program, she hopes to become and more confident speaker.
Jennifer Zepeda – Sponsored by Platinum Bench Estate Winery
Jennifer is a very family-oriented girl. She lives with her parents and her younger brother and spends lots of time with extended family. She is 16 years old, and will start Grade 11 at SOSS in September. Her favourite subjects are Social Studies and Humanities. Jennifer likes sports, as well, and plays volleyball at school. Her goal in life is to get a post-secondary education and to help others.
Rabbjot Mundahar – Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oliver
Rabbjot is 15 years old and just completed 9th grade. She and her family have lived in Oliver for 14 years. Her family consists of her two loving parents and one younger brother. She enjoys playing sports, her favourite being soccer. In the future, Rabbjot plans to become a pilot because she loves to travel.
Enola Mills – Sponsored by Oliver Dental Care
The coolest thing about Enola’s name, is that is Alone spelled backwards! She is 14 years old and just finished 9th grade at Southern Okanagan Secondary School! She is also involved in the air cadet program at Oliver’s very own 232 Bighorn Squadron. She enjoys playing sports and spending time with her friends and family. One day, Enola aspires to enter the world of medicine, travel down the path of paediatrics and can’t wait to see where that road takes her!
