A provincial grant has left the Oliver Community Theatre Society with an extra $8,400 to put towards programming at the Venables Theatre.

The Community Presenters Assistance Grant was provided by B.C.’s Touring Council, Arts Council and the Province of B.C.

“This was the first year our Society qualified for this provincial grant, so we’re thrilled and really encouraged,” said board member Wendy Newman.

The funds will go towards the theatre’s four Family Showtime shows for children and three other presentations: A Streetcar Named Desire by Ballet Kelowna, Vic’s Mix by RubberBand Dance from Montreal, and the Comic Strippers.

The Family Showtime Series features The Fred Penner Duo, comedian and “zaniac” Alex Zerbe, Dufflebag Theatre’s Sleeping Beauty and Axe Capoeira, a Brazilian-style dance troupe from Vancouver.

Tickets and information to these shows and more can be found at www.venablestheatre.ca.
