Oliver feels quake
It was small, but Oliver and Okanagan Falls residents felt the earth tremble at 11:09 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Natural Resources Canada reported a 2.8 magnitude earthquake that woke some people up and surprised others who were still awake.
It reportedly hit between Okanagan Falls and Oliver and only lasted a few seconds. No damage was reported.
Oliver resident Georgena Forsythe said she was on the computer when she heard a huge “bang,” with some slight shaking.
“It was quite a rumble. At first I thought it might have been the snowplow and he must have hit a house. Then I thought, with so many tall trees around here, one must have fallen on the roof of our storage shed.”
One resident in Okanagan Falls called 911 to report what sounded like an explosion. Kelowna dispatch contacted the fire department, but it was determined that no action was necessary.
