Oliver man wins men's Lt. Wt. Div. Karate Tournameny

On Sunday Dec 4th 2011 Vancouver played host to the prestigious Vancouver Cup. Fighters from around North America participated in exciting bare-knuckle karate.
Representing the Oliver Kyokushin karate club(and South Okanagan) was Benjamin Brunet.
A native from Quebec, Ben has lived in Oliver since 2000 and has trained in the Oliver dojo for the past 5 years under head instructor Mike Riplinger.
“Ben is a keener” says Riplinger, and his dedication to training and helping out with instruction has helped carry him to the podium.
Training consists of both physical and mental discipline and takes months of extra preparation for a tournament of this calibre.
Ben’s fights were deemed some of the most exciting action of the night and, after an extension round against a very technical fighter, it was Benny’s hand being raised as champion of the Men’s light weight division.
