With new Dog Control Bylaws in place, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is increasing their animal control presence within their jurisdiction.

The RDOS entered into an agreement with South Okanagan Security Services Ltd. to provide Animal Control services within the Regional District area in February.

South Okanagan Security has identified one of their vehicles as RDOS Animal Control, complete with the Animal Control phone number advertised to make it easier to contact them.

An Animal Control Officer is patrolling RDOS areas educating people about the new bylaw and reminding all dog owners that their dog must be under their control at all times.

The new Dog Control Bylaw requires all dogs be on a leash, securely held by a competent person, when in any park unless the area has been designated by signage as an off-leash area.

Dog owners are also required to carry disposable bags and pick up after their dog at all times. The new bylaw requires that all dog owners carry bags and if one can’t be produced when asked by an officer, a fine can be issued.

Complaints can be submitted to an RDOS Animal Control Officer directly by calling 250-490-4113.

For further information contact (250) 490-4130 or raylwin@rdos.bc.ca.
