Anyone who participated in or volunteered for the 2013 Half Corked Marathon event in Oliver should feel even better about their experience.
Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association (OOWA) vice-chair Pam Luckhurst and executive director Tony Munday, presented the Oliver Parks & Recreation Society with a cheque for $3,500 in support of the “Any Child Can Join” fund.
“Any Child Can Join” is a sponsorship program where individuals and local organizations such as OOWA, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97 and the Oliver Elks, provide the financial funding required for an Oliver or Area C child to register for a recreation program of their choice.
Families in need of assistance can complete an application form at the Oliver Community Centre indicating which program/activity their child would like to participate in.
Each form is reviewed in confidence and approved by the recreation program manager, and children are registered directly into the program using “Any Child Can Join” funds provided by sponsors.
Thanks to the hard work by OOWA and the success of the increasingly popular Half-Corked Marathon, between 50-75 local children will directly experience the benefits of recreation.
