The Town of Oliver has approved a development variance permit to locate a manufactured home on a single family residential lot.
It has been an ongoing practice of the Town to consider permits to allow the placement of manufactured homes in areas where they are not normally permitted.
Municipal Manager Tom Szalay said this is not seen as a change of use, but rather a variance to the type of structure that is permitted to contain that use.
Notices of the proposal were mailed out to adjacent land owners within 30 metres of the property at 530 Hillcrest Avenue. It was noted the manufactured home will be affixed to a permanent foundation.
Councillor Linda Larson said she can’t see the home having a detrimental impact on the character of the neighbourhood.
Councillor Dave Mattes said he believes it will be an asset to the community. “These homes blend into the community so well.”
Mayor Ron Hovanes said council tries to ensure that such developments are aesthetically pleasing. “I agree it will be an addition to the neighbourhood.”
