The South Okanagan Sun Devils Atom Development B hockey team capped off a successful season by winning the championship Sunday.

The playoffs were held from Friday to Sunday in Osoyoos and Oliver and the local team was undefeated throughout the weekend.

In the final game Sunday afternoon, they beat Penticton 1 by 5-2.

“Definitely our team played excellent all season,” said Head Coach Dean Maynard after his players posed for photos holding the pennant. “They came out to play for the playoffs and everyone contributed.”

Maynard expressed appreciation to his coaches and all the players for playing so hard.

The first indication on the weekend that this was a team on a roll came in the opening game when the Sun Devils delivered an 18-6 drubbing to Kelowna 3.

They then beat Greater Vernon 1, Penticton 2 and Kamloops 3.

The only game they didn’t win was a Sunday morning match against Penticton 1 in Oliver that ended in a tie.

In the final match, Penticton 1 had a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, but from then on, the Sun Devils had command of the ice.

When the final buzzer sounded, the youngsters threw off their gloves, raised their sticks in celebration and congratulated each other as proud parents beamed at them from the bleachers.
